Two days passed with no word from Jesse. He was active on his socials once in a while, but he was still ignoring Jeannie.
After two more days, he'd removed her from his bio and unfollowed her.
The next day, she couldn't access his profile--he had blocked her.
Text messages went undelivered, and her calls were immediately dropped.
Jeannie couldn't believe it. What had gone wrong? Was it the pictures? Were they a turnoff? He seemed to have liked them at the time.
"Honey, you've got to snap out of this," her mother, Liz, said as she brought Jeannie a cup of tea in bed. "I know it hurts, but he was clearly just a dumb boy. You dodged a bullet there."
"I know, but I don't know what happened." Jeannie sniffled.
Just then, her phone vibrated and she blinked her tears away long enough to check the notification. It was from a number she did not recognize.
She gasped when she opened the message. It was one of the racy photos she'd sent Jesse the night before he went silent.
fckn hawtt bb🤤 followed in another message.
who is this? Jesse? Jeannie quickly replied. Could it be Jesse? Did he lose his phone and have to get a new one? That would explain everything!
who's Jesse? The next message read.
"Babydoll? Is everything okay?" Liz asked, looking concerned at Jeannie's changed demeanor.
"I--I don't know. I think Jesse may have given out my phone number or something." She tossed her phone down and closed her eyes, blocking emerging tears.
"Are you sure?" Liz sat down beside her on the bed. "Is there something else going on?"
Jeannie sighed heavily. "I--I may have," Jeannie's voice quivered. "I sent him some...pictures." Her voice broke at the word 'pictures.'
"Oh no," her mom's face fell.
"I don't need a lecture, Mom. I'm 18 now, I just--" Jeannie rolled over on her side, as her mother cut her off.
"I'm not going to lecture you, Babydoll. God knows I've done it myself." She patted Jeannie's arm reassuringly. "I just want to help."
"How can you help?" Jeannie turned back to face her mother.
"I don't know," Liz stood and began pacing. "But I do know that this type of thing is illegal. Maybe we'll start there."
"Okay," Jeannie sat up. "Hand me my laptop."
Liz took Jeannie's laptop from her desk and handed it to her. "I'm going to look into this right now." Jeannie opened up the computer and began typing.
Just then, her phone buzzed again.
It was a different number, with a different sexy photo of Jeannie, but a similar message to the last one.
Jeannie slammed the laptop closed and tossed it to the side before lying back down, tears rolling down her face once more.
"That fucking asshole." Liz clinched her fists. "I'll kill him."
"Not if I get him first," Jeannie said through gritted teeth and sobs. "But first, I just need to lie here and wallow for a while. Can you get the light, Mom?"
"Sure, Babydoll." Liz patted Jeannie's side before walking to the door, turning off Jeannie's light, then gently closing the door behind her.
She then reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone, opening up her text app.
it's me. I have a lawyer question for you.
Liz's phone buzzed a few seconds later.
u know I prefer the sexy pix, Lizzy, but sure. Anything for u.
okay, I'm calling you. It's kind of a lot Liz replied before calling her own special friend, who just happened to be an attorney.
